Johannesburg – With car theft increasing in various Gauteng regions, the South African Police Service is strengthening its forces to detain criminals under lock and key.
According to Captain Xoli Mbele, unit police officers tested 2 cars in Freedom Park during one of their routine crime prevention duties, after which they recovered the vehicles as stolen.
Adding a slight twist to the story, the suspected thief was discovered to have already been taken into custody by Booysen police in May 2017, for carrying car break-in equipment. How’s that for breakneck public service? Gauteng police is surely stepping up their game!
Captain Mbele revealed that, “A white Toyota Tazz came out positive that it was reported stolen at Orange Farm in May 2017. Police also recovered a maroon Honda without registration and licensed disc. When they compared it [they] found out that the engine has been tampered with.”
The dweller of the property told the police unit that the cars belonged to her 36-year-old brother. According to Captain Mbele, the suspect will not only be charged with being in possession of vehicle break-in equipment, but also for being in possession of stolen cars.
