Searching for your next new car? Previous reports on the new-vehicle sales market have already disclosed its “positive performance in July sales” – showcasing a 4.1% increase, in comparison to July last year, thanks to its 46 719 units sold.
Following route, it seems as though South Africa’s second-hand vehicle sales market is receiving a healthy resurgence.
A significant drop in interest rates…
TransUnion has publicised its latest update to the Vehicle Pricing Index, “should be music to the ears of consumers who’ve been itching to buy a new vehicle.” – a 5.4% drop in the VPI for new passenger vehicles.
The VPI places headlight on the relation between the annual increase in the price of new and used vehicles. TransUnion creates the VIP by drawing data from the top 15 most highly manufactured passenger cars.

However, despite the attention-grabbing changes to the automotive industry’s pricing, consumers are still hassled by the skeptic frears of rates well above the Consumer Pricing Index. Wesbank has report that despite the price cut in interest rates, fuel and vehicle inflation, “the cost of motoring is still on the rise.”
As a result of the GDP deflation in the South African market’s first quarter, it looks like car buyers are still opting to turn in the direction of used car models…
