Ford South Africa announced another safety recall yesterday, that affects all Ford Kugas.

Worried the recall won’t fix your Kuga? Sell it through CarZar instead!

Recall: Which Kugas Are Affected?

The new recall affects all Kuga engine-types produced by Ford’s factory in Valencia, Spain, between July 2012 and June 2014. 7219 Ford Kugas are being recalled in South Africa, with over 170 000 vehicles being affected worldwide.

What’s the problem, now?

The recall is due to a potential fire risk posed by insulation material near the front seatbelts. In the event of a front-on collision, the activation of the seatbelt pre-tensioner can cause this insulating material to catch fire.

What do I do if my Kuga is being recalled?

According to Ford’s official website, any Ford Kuga owner whose vehicle was not affected by the previous safety recall should contact their dealer for more details. Ford is advising customers to schedule an appointment with their dealer to perform the recall.

Customers who have already scheduled an appointment as part of the Phase 2 safety recall – which began in July – will be able to get the latest recall conducted at the same time.

Previous recalls

According to Wheels24, this is the latest in a series of safety recalls issued by Ford in the last year, which addressed potential fire risks with a variety of causes.

In January, Ford recalled 4556 Kuga 1.6 Ecoboost models that were manufactured between December 2012 and February 2014. Then in June, Ford recalled 15 600 Figo and Ikon cars built between Augst 2004 and March 2012.

The previous recall addressed a potential fire risk caused by the low coolant levels. This caused the engine to overheat and risk catching fire. The Phase 2 recall made a number of changes, including installing a coolant sensor to monitor the vehicle’s coolant levels, as well as warning drivers if the levels dropped to dangerous levels.
