China is reigning as the highest market for electric cars. But, will Germany be next in line? Munich’s car industry is transitioning into a combustion-free region, and Volvo seems to be next in line to remove power out of motion.
With regulations on emissions tightening up in the car field, the automotive market is become highly competitive in joining the ‘green car’ revolution, in order to dodge the banning of pollutive vehicles.
Joining the transition into green streets, Volvo’s future seems to be looking bright in light of electric sparks. The popular car brand foresees a future of five electrified vehicles – two of which will be part of Volvo’s high-performance Polestar sub-brand. Volvo manufacturers are expected to turn the new battery-powered Volvo models into an electric car encompassing much more attractive designs and longer driving ranges.
The German brand revealed on Wednesday, that the new car models are envisioned to be introduced between 2019 and 2021. Volvo also plans to build battery-powered compact cars, and an all electric XC90 SUV.
Broadening its horizons and keeping consumer options open, Volvo also anticipates to engineer hybrid variants – legitimate competition to compete with in an already-crowded market.
But, what does this mean for other motor vehicle brands?
- Mercedes-Benz – Fired prototypes capable of driving more than 400km on the clock.
- Tesla – In the process of manufacturing its 3rd model.
- Audi and Jaguar Land Rover – Tailgating Mercedes-Benz.
According to a statement made on Wednesday by Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson, “Volvo Cars has stated that it plans to have sold a total of 1 million electrified cars by 2025.”
The battery-powered model promises global exportation. What does this mean for the Volvo market in South Africa?
